Events Happening This Weekend In Pittsburgh: 1/27/17

You can now find all of our Pittsburgh related content at BurghGal.com.

This is the second time I am writing this. About an hour ago, my nemesis, Squarespace, decided to delete the first draft of this post off the face of the internet. Some of my humor, wit, and excitement might be gone because... yeah, this is my second time writing this, and I am not exactly in a great mood.

This Squarespace hiccup, and my subsequent breakdown, couldn't have come at a better time - my year with Squarespace ends in 2 weeks.  I want (see: need) to switch over to another platform, but I have a feeling this isn't going to be an easy process.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  Does anyone have a favorite platform?  Let me know: madeline@thegal-ivanter.com

EVENTS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND IN PITTSBURGH: 1/27/17

TWELFTH NIGHT @ O'REILLY THEATRE

January 26th - February 26th, O'Reilly Theatre - Downtown
If I had my druthers, I would have a Shakespeare event to mention every weekend. Luckily, from now until the end of February, I get my wish (or my druthers).  The Twelfth Night was one of the first Shakespeare plays I read, and it is a personal favorite. You might know the plot - this was the play that loosely inspired the Amanda Bines' movie She's the Man. More information and the ticket link can be found on the Pittsburgh Public Theatre website

SOUTHERN TIER BREWPUB GRAND OPENING

January 26th, Southern Tier Brewpub - North Shore, hours on Facebook Page
In 2016 it was announced that Southern Tier Brewery would be opening its first satellite brewpub in Pittsburgh, due to the popularity of the beer in the city. Well, as of January 26th, the brewpub is open, and ready for business (pretty much).  Information about the brewpub and its hours can be found on Southern Tier - Pittsburgh's Facebook page.  More information about the creation can be found in this Post-Gazette article

MAD TEA PARTY @ NINE STORIES

January 27th, Nine Stories - Lawrenceville, 7pm-9pm
In honor of Lewis Carroll's 185th birthday, Nine Stories in Lawrenceville is hosting a literary event on Friday night.  There will be coffee, snacks, a raffle, and a chance to peruse Nine Stories and pick out a new book.  If you haven't been to Nine Stories, this is the perfect opportunity to check it out! I know like half of you are going to be spending your Friday night in Lawrenceville, so you might as well check it out. More information can be found on the Facebook event page

1ST ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION @ HIDDEN HARBOR

January 27th & 28th, Hidden Harbor - Squirrel Hill, 5-7pm
I have gone the past three weeks in a row, blogged about the place, and basically flirted with them on Instagram - I think it is safe to say I am obsessed with Hidden Harbor.  I am so excited to announce that in honor of their first anniversary, their entire menu is half off from 5-7pm on Friday and Saturday.  If you haven't been, now is your chance.  If you have been, you realize what a great deal this is.  See you there (no really, I'll be there both days).

HARRY POTTER MOVIE AND CRAFT NIGHT @ SONGBIRD ARTISTRY

January 27th, Songbird Artisty - Bloomfield, 7pm-10:30pm
I love this event!  More information can be found on the Facebook event page

OLD SAP RELEASE PARTY @ WIGLE WHISKY

January 27th, Wigle Whisky - Strip District, 6pm
This Friday Wigle is hosting its first whisky release of 2017! Two years ago, the Wigle Whisky team created Old Sap, a malt and maple syrup flavored(?) whisky.  It is finally ready for drinking! The whisky was created in collaboration with Four Seasons Brewery in Latrobe, who inspired the flavoring of the drink.  The $15 ticket includes a maple syrup tasting, a Four Season beer, and an Old Sap cocktail - a pretty good deal if you ask me.  More information, and the link to purchase tickets, can be found on the Wigle Whisky website

CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

January 28th, throughout Pittsburgh
This Saturday is the Chinese New Year.  There are events happening throughout the city to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.

  • Squirrel Hill is hosting a 2 week long festival, beginning this Saturday with events, food, and drinks at the JCC, and finishing with a parade down Murray on February 12th.  More information on the celebrations happening this Saturday can be found on the Squirrel Hill Union Coalition website
  • Wigle Whisky is celebrating the Chinese new year at its Strip District distillery.  They will be giving out red envelopes with every purchase, and featuring special cocktails. There will be a dragon dance at 3pm on Sunday.  More information can be found on the Wigle Whisky website
  • The Millvale Community Library will be making red lanterns (11-12) and serving Chinese food from 11am-3pm this Saturday.  More information can be found on the Facebook event page

2ND ANNUAL IMBIBE NORTH SIDE @ THE MATTRESS FACTORY

January 28th, The Mattress Factory - North Side, 6:30pm-9:30pm
There are four breweries and one distillery on the North Side of Pittsburgh? Awesome! You can try all of them at the second Imbibe North Side event at the Mattress Factory? Even more awesome! The $30 ticket includes alcohol and access to the Mattress Factory.  There will also be food trucks and live music on site.  More information, and the link to tickets can be found on the Facebook event page

MIAMI VICE NIGHT @ SIENNA MERCATO

January 28th, Sienna Mercato - Downtown, 4pm-Midnight
I think this speaks for yourself.  If you're a bro and want to dress 80s and drink 80s drinks this weekend, Sienna Mercato has got ya. More information can be found on the Facebook event page.

KANYE NIGHT @ BELVEDERES

January 28th, Belvederes - Lawrenceville, 9pm-2am
Screw the fact I have yoga at 9am the following morning (see below), I will be on the dance floor until 2am this Saturday. All ye, all night... now that is music to my ears.  More information can be found on the Facebook event page

MEDITATION AND MOVEMENT @ THE CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF ART

January 29th, The Carnegie Museum of Art - Oakland, 9am-12pm
The Carnegie Museum of Art is giving Pittsburghers the chance to start their weeks off on a very zen note.  Between 9am and 12pm, there will be wellness related activities occurring at the museum, from yoga to massages.  More information, and the link to tickets can be found on the Facebook event page

BRECKENRIDGE COFFEE MUG BRUNCH @ HOUGH'S TAPROOM

January 29th, Hough's Taproom - Greenfield, 10am-3pm
I am mostly including this because I really want to to go to brunch at Hough's Taproom, and this seems like a perfect excuse.  Buy brunch and a brew off the special menu, get a free Breckenridge mug.  More information can be found on the Facebook event page

I can't believe I wrote that all again.  Pittsburgh, I love you.
